The Exams Office of the Institut français de Chypre is responsible of the quality of the exams leading to the certifications it provides. It organises and conducts the examinations for DELF-DALF, TCF, DFP and DAEFLE.

CECRL niveauxThe language assessment examinations offered by the Institut français de Chypre are calibrated to coincide with the different levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the framework for the assessment of foreign language proficiency from beginner level (A1) to mastery (C2).

DAEFLE

Τhe DAEFLE (Diplôme d’Aptitude à l’Enseignement du Français Langue Etrangère) is a professional qualification for teaching French as a foreign language. It is the product of cooperation between the Alliance française of Paris and the CNED (French national centre for distant learning).

Preparation for the diploma is done through distance learning. The online entry test and the final test are held at the Institut français de Chypre. The candidate also has the option of doing the online entry test in the comfort of his/her own house.

For 2018, the entry test is held on the following dates :

DELF-DALF exams

  • DELF Prim: for Primary education pupils
  • DELF Junior: for Secondary education pupils
  • DELF-DALF Tout public: for adults

The DELF-DALF diplomas are found in 3 variations: DELF Prim, DELF Junior and DELF/DALF Tout public, with the same validity and international recognition. Their difference lies in the different topics used at the examination, which are adapted according to the candidates’ interests:

The
Institut français de Chypre is the only official examination centre in Cyprus, accredited by the CIEP (International Centre for French Studies), a public institution of the French Ministry of Education to deliver the DELF and DALF diplomas. Exam sessions are organised yearly in May-June.

The DELF and DALF diplomas are an advantage for the academic and professional pathway of their holders. For studies in France the lower level required is the B2 level.

Business French Diplomas

The Business French Diplomas are practical certifications delivered by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris Ile-de-France. They are intended for all those who wish to assess their communication skills (written and oral) in French in the main areas of the professional world : business, law, diplomacy, tourism and hotel industry, secretarial skills, sciences and technology, healthcare, fashion and design. The diplomas delivered are internationally recognized and valid for life.

These examinations are suitable for any student or professional of a specific field and assess the candidate’s ability to use French in professional situations, at different levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) developed by the Council of Europe, with diplomas ranging from breakthrough level (A1) to operational efficiency (C1). Diplomas in Professional French (DFP) assess the candidate’s aptitude and competence to use written and oral French in various areas of professional life. These tests are conceived based on real-life professional situations and are adapted to today’s economy.

At the moment, Business, Diplomacy and Tourism & Hotel Industry exams are computer-based while others are paper-based.

Information on TCF

The TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) is an language proficiency test. It assesses the candidate’s level of French at the time of the exam by positioning him/her at one of the six levels (from A1 to C2) of the competency scale defined by the Council of Europe (CEFR).

Developed by the French Ministry of Education, the test ensures strict methodology validated by a linguists committee composed of the best French and European specialists. TCF score results are reliable measurements for determining proficiency.

It is a multiple-choice test with 76 items that cover reading and listening comprehension and grammatical structures. It also includes optional tests for writing and speaking.

Since March 2017, the TCF exam is computer-based (TCF SO).  The enrolment form and the exam schedule concern the computer-based test. The paper-based test is offered twice yearly and candidates who opt for this test should contact the This email address is being protected from spambots. TCF is also offered in the following variants:

-        TCF DAP - for non European citizens who wish to apply as a first year undergraduate (Licence 1) to a French university or French school of architecture.

-        TCF ANF - for those who wish to apply for French nationality

-        TCF Québec - for those who wish to emigrate to Quebec, Canada

For studies in France the lower level required is the B2 level.
