Pafos, European Capital of Culture
Pafos, a Cypriot city registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its archaeological treasures, was elected European Capital of Culture for 2017. The theme of the program of cultural events is inspired by the geographical position of the city, which is a link Between East and West: "Linking the continents, creating bridges between cultures".
In June, a large public came to the esplanade of the castle of Kato Paphos to applaud the aerial and poetic spectacle The dance of the Cariatides by the French Company Retouramont.
In December 2017 Pafos 2017 will host a collective work by 60 artists selected by the Salon d'Automne de Paris, together with 30 Greek and Turkish Cypriot artists, for a symbolic exhibition. Thanks to the generous initiative of Michèle Ansermet-Papadopoulos, painter and member of the Salon d'Automne. The theme of this exhibition is the diptych which symbolises the reconciliation of the two political entities that constitute the island. This unique artistic event is supported by the French Institute of Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus. From 1st to 15th December, at the En Plo Gallery (Palia Ilektriki).
