Francophonie 2018.13th Film Festival

The French Institute of Cyprus and the Association Friends of Cinema, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the Embassies of Switzerland, Bulgaria, Romania and Lebanon present the 13th Film Festival.

All films start at 9:00 pm, except on Sunday: 8:00 pm. Venue: Cine studio, University of Nicosia

The Friends of Cinema Society is a cinema club. According to the terms and conditions for its operation and screening of films, NO admission is allowed to anyone under the age of 18.

Actors: François Cluzet, Marianne Denicourt, Christophe Odent

Synopsis: All the people in this countryside area, can count on Jean-Pierre, the doctor who auscultates them, heals and reassures them day and night, 7 days a week. Now Jean-Pierre is sick, so he sees Natalie, a young doctor, coming from the hospital to assist him. But will she adapt to this new life and be able to replace the man that believed to be irreplaceable?

Synopsis: 1988. In a seemingly idyllic Cypriot village, twelve-year-old Socrates’ careless summer  comes to an abrupt end when he finds himself at the center of a murder investigation, which exposes a dark family secret and changes his life forever.

Synopsis: Diane Kramer is led by one obsession: to find the driver of the mocha color Mercedes which hit her son and devastated her life. With a few belongings, some money and a gun, she goes to Evian, where she's learned the driver lives. But sometimes, the path of revenge is more tortuous than it seems… Diane will have to face another woman, friendly and mysterious.

Followed by a cocktail offered by the Ambassador of Switzerland.

Synopsis: Claire is a midwife in a maternity hospital. She is humane and helpful and gives herself entirely to her patients. But despite that her life is not a bed of roses. Her hospital is about to close its doors and the devoted woman is determined not to work in the new modern hospital she regards as a "baby factory". It is the moment that Béatrice, her dead father's former mistress, chooses to resurface. The eccentric, spendthrift, sensual, amoral woman  is really the last kind of person she needs to mix with.

Synopsis: Therese, the mayor's wife in a Lebanese village, joyfully prepares for an overnight visit of her daughter's suitor and his parents. She excitedly shares the happy news of the engagement with pictures of her beloved brother who was killed by a Syrian bomb 20 years ago and is still bizarrely present in every corner of her house. Only when the long-awaited guests are at her doorstep, she discovers they are Syrian; this engagement will only happen over Therese's dead body!

Synopsis: At Radu Maligan's 94th anniversary, the family members and the former colleagues and friends of the old man come to his birthday party. Everything gets complicated when half of the guests try to convince Radu to confess his sins to a priest, while the others think that no one should be forced to do something beyond their will.

Jerome decides to go to the town where he grew up to see what is going on. Little does he know how eventful his escapade will be. Synopsis: Emil, writer and owner of  an advertising agency gradually becomes obsessed with spying on his family, friends and employees via hidden spy cameras. What starts as an innocent hobby ends up as a total disaster, as in the process, he abuses his new power and eventually comes to realize that some secrets should be left uncovered.
