Francophonie 2019

General programme

Every year, during the Francophonie month, the French Institute of Cyprus in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, their many partners and the French speaking embassies members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, organizes numerous events: conferences, concerts, exhibitions, film festival, school competition, etc.

 

Cinéma Francophonie 2019 Chypre 01/09 - 03/04 : 14th Francophone Film Festival

 01/03: Opening of the Festival with the Cypriot film, RosemarieA cocktail will be offered by the Ministry of Education and Culture before the screening, attended by   the director of the film, Adonis Florides.

 Organized by the Department of French and European Studies of the University of Cyprus, in collaboration with the Embassy of Lebanon in Cyprus.

 05/03 - 19/04 - French Institute of Cyprus :

 10 alumni artists, from art schools in France, come together for an exceptional exhibition. These Alumni artists, have one thing in common: studies in France or a strong  professional link with our country. They enthusiastically accepted to share their world and their French experience.

 The result is a collective and exceptional creation: Trait d'union.

 Under this symbolic title, there is a link between Cyprus and France, between different generations, between various artistic expressions and singular worlds.Trait d'union is not only an exhibition but also a film which will be diffused in one hundred and twenty countries linked to the France Alumni Chypre platform! Trait d'union is also a testimony, mirroring the statement of the painter Paul Klee: "art does not reproduce the visible but makes visible". In the film, the artists present their vision, their questioning, their convictions.

 Tuesday 5th March - 7:00pm: Opening of the exhibition at the French Institute of Cyprus (59, Strovolos Avenue, Strovolos). In the presence of the participating artists.

 Tuesday 12th March 2019 - 7:30pm - Nicosia, Centre of Cultural Heritage (10, Alexander The Great, Old Nicosia)

 Conference in French held by Dr Sophocles Sophocleous, professor of archeology and history of art.

 The EIKONOLOGION is the digital inventory of the natural and cultural heritage of Cyprus. It is one of the most important programs of the Centre of Cultural Heritage. It   constitutes a research instrument at the service of the international academic community and of the public. It includes at this stage around 50.000 photographic   documents accompanied by analytical records. The 34 thematic units of EIKONOLOGION reflect the natural heritage, and the evolution of the Cypriot civilization from   Prehistory down to the 20th century, covering thus a chronological span of twelve millennia. Eugène Delacroix Le 28 Juillet. La Liberté guidant le peuple The France of ideas, of the barricades and of the movements (1789-2019) 

 Tuesday 19 mars 2019 - 8:00pm - Larnaca, Fondation Theodoulou (Theodoulou House, 9 Weir et 5 Corais str., Larnaca, 1st Floor). 

 Conference in Greek held by Dr. Christos A. Theodoulou, President of the Theodoulou Foundation and Honorary Consul of Tunisia.

 The conférence describes briefly the movements from the French Revolution in 1789, the rise and fall of Napoleon the 1st, the days of July 1830, the days of February 1848, Sedan (1870) and the end of the 2nd French Empire. Subsequently, reference is made to the paris Commune (1871) and the 3rd Republic which gave place to the 4th Republic at the end of the 2nd World War. Next, the rise og Général De gaulle is mentioned, as welle as the days of May 68 in detail. Also a characterization and the description of the relations of France with the ideas and the way French citizens react to the movements. At the end of the conference a short reference is made to today's "Yellow Vests", without analyzing this subject, noting that this movement is ongoing.
